This is the architecture the agent economy has been groping toward for two years. The question everyone building autonomous systems has been quietly asking is: how do you afford this at scale? Both can be right: x402 handles the commodity case, and specialized agent-payment stacks handle the complex one.
The third thread running through today's news is quieter but worth tracking. The report that shared Claude conversations were showing up indexed in search engines is a small story with large implications. When a human shares a conversation, the surface area of that exposure is bounded by what one person typed. When agents interact at scale — creating sessions, generating outputs, following shared links — the data exhaust from those interactions is orders of magnitude larger, and none of the systems designed to handle it were built with agent-scale production in mind. The search-engine indexing problem is an early warning about a category of unintended exposure that will grow as agent deployment accelerates.
The through-line across all three threads: the agent economy is now past the point of asking whether the economics work. The architecture that makes them work is being settled. The payment infrastructure is being laid. The data-trail problems are starting to surface.
